Country stars Leann Rimes and Florida Georgia Line are teaming up to say farewell to rockers Motley Crue by recording their hits for an odd new tribute album.
Vince Neil and his band announced on Tuesday (28Jan14) they would be retiring following one final 72-date tour, which will begin in July (14) - and as part of a salute to the group, Taylor Swift's label boss at Big Machine Records has announced plans to release a country-flavored covers album.
Scott Borchetta has rounded up Rimes and Florida Georgia Line, as well as Cassadee Pope, Justin Moore and the Eli Young Band to record their favorite Crue tunes, stating, "When you look at the song catalog, the songs are going to be the things that stand the test of time. I’m going to match up some of my outlaw artists with some of these great songs and we’re going to go pretty wide.
"Everybody that I brought this up to has been so excited. We’re intentionally leaving a few slots open because now that we’ve announced this I know there’s going to be people who want to be on this record."
The album will be released to coincide with the beginning of Motley Crue's last tour.
