Laura Prepon’s Sag dress survived a blizzard and flooding before she wore it on the red carpet at Saturday night’s (30Jan16) awards.
The Orange Is the New Black actress opted for a white ethereal Carmen Marc Valvo gown for the big night, adding a black clutch and drop earrings to accessorise the look. Her New York-based stylist Hellin Kay brought the dress to LA for the awards show by car, but her trip turned into a nightmare thanks to Storm Jonas. Driving to the SAG awards has become a tradition for Hellin, but the adverse weather conditions made the road trip a race for survival.
“This year's was a bit more dramatic - I had to sit with my weather maps trying to figure out which roads to take so I wouldn't die," Hellin laughed to America’s InStyle. "There were blizzards, floods, tornados, torrential downpours - it was apocalyptic. But I white-knuckled it and survived.
"Some of these gowns are from Paris and they're in the trunk of my car. They travel from Paris to New York, through blizzards, and they land on the red carpet in Los Angeles."
Hellin realizes a plane ride would have been a lot easier, and less dangerous, but she prefers to get behind the wheel as it clears her head. Calling her trip “badass”, the stylist has no regrets about her mode of transport to the 2016 SAG Awards.
"I could have easily hopped on a flight and had all the clothes shipped to me in Los Angeles, not a problem,” she pointed out. “But this is an adventure. I find these five days alone on the road meditative. It's a vision quest but without the drugs. It allows me a moment to breathe and refocus. We spend so much time in between these two major cities that I like to see the rest of the country."
