Katy Perry has donated $10,000 to Planned Parenthood following Donald Trump's shock win in the U.S. presidential election.
The Roar hitmaker shared her donation with her followers on social media, and encouraged them to support the women's organization, or other similar charities, which face the threat of having their government funding taken from them.
Trump has previously said he would put a stop to the federal funding Planned Parenthood receives, even though he acknowledged the positive work it has done for millions of women in the U.S.
Katy posted a screenshot of her donation on Instagram and Twitter on Friday (11Nov16), and recalled how Planned Parenthood helped her as teenager in California.
"It's time to turn words into action!" the 32-year-old began the lengthy post. "There are so many steps to take, but my first vow is to support organizations that may have their funding support taken from them in the future by the government."
Mentioning her strict religious upbringing, Katy went on to share how the organization educated her.
"I am making a public donation to Planned Parenthood for the teenage me who made several visits to first a clinic in Santa Barbara and then Los Angeles, CA to educate myself on my sexual health, a subject I had little to no information on because of my sheltered upbringing. I had no idea how things worked down there, and had no idea how to make a plan for them," she wrote.
Katy, who was an avid supporter of Trump’s Democrat rival Hillary Clinton throughout the election, added that Planned Parenthood educated her on her body and reproductive health, which allowed her to focus on her dreams and gave her the freedom to be able to choose when to start a family.
Ending her post by encouraging her followers to show their support for women's organizations and charities in light of Trump's election win, Katy said she hoped her donation inspired others.
"I am grateful for and stand in support of Planned Parenthood for giving Katheryn Hudson (Perry’s birth name) the knowledge to plan, and for continuing to be a haven for women to learn all options for their future," she said. "Now, more than ever, we all need to protect and create safe places for each other. I hope I can help inspire you to make a gift as well, and become a member and an ally."
