Singer John Newman is no longer friends with Taylor Swift after her "brutal" treatment of Calvin Harris.
The Shake It Off hitmaker split with her DJ beau Harris back in June (16), after dating for more than a year. She bounced back from the break-up by dating Tom Hiddleston in a whirlwind romance that ended earlier this month (Sep16).
Taylor and Calvin's split then turned very messy when her team unexpectedly announced she had written Calvin's hit single This is What You Came For, which features Rihanna.
However, it was Newman who originally revealed her secret involvement back in April, months before the pair's bitter break-up. "This is my favorite @CalvinHarris track ever made, one of the best pop songs I have heard @rihanna @taylorswift13," John tweeted back in April, which he quickly deleted.
And the singer revealed it was Calvin who asked him to take the post down immediately, so Taylor's involvement on the track would go unnoticed. The 26-year-old star opted to use the pseudonym Nils Sjoberg on the song.
Taylor's team announced in July she had in fact written the track, leading to Calvin accusing his ex of trying to "tear him down". And Newman wasn't impressed with the popstar's behavior towards his good friend during the very public spat.
"From her side? Yeah, it did get brutal. I'm like Calvin, happy to take a back seat. I like my music to do the talking. When I tweeted that (about Taylor's involvement back in April), there was a text almost immediately from Calvin. He was like, 'Down. Now'," he explained.
"And then it all came out anyway. No I'm not (friendly with Taylor any more), I don't agree with what's gone on... but I shouldn't comment further. I wouldn't know her well enough, weirdly. She's in another world," he scathingly added.
Despite the split from Calvin, John admitted he is still a fan of Taylor's music, and is confident her next album will be a resounding success whether she opens up about her relationship with Harris or not.
"I really like her music so they'll be great songs either way," John shared. "But I've had uncomplimentary things sung about me by exes. You get on with it."
