Puerto Rican model Joan Smalls is to make her spoken word acting debut in a new Netflix movie.
Smalls will star alongside Zoey Deutch, Lucy Liu, Glen Powell, and Taye Diggs in director Claire Scanlon's Set It Up, which centers on two underpaid assistants who try to set their bosses up in an attempt to improve their workplace environments.
Smalls will play Suze, Powell's girlfriend in the film, which will be released next year (18).
Joan signed to Elite Model Management in 2007, and found success in commercial shoots. She then signed with IMG Models worldwide in 2009 and changed her focus to runway work. She began modeling haute couture and ready-to-wear collections for designers and fashion houses such as Chanel, Prada, Gucci, Marc Jacobs and Tom Ford.
She also signed to cosmetics giant Estee Lauder as a brand ambassador, and became the first Latina to front a global campaign for the company.
Joan made her movie debut in the sequel to Keanu Reeves' John Wick.
