Actor James Franco will pose in drag for photographs at his latest art exhibition in New York.
The Spider-Man star has displayed his work in galleries worldwide and will now exhibit his latest collection at the Pace Gallery in New York from Friday (11Apr14).
The exhibition, entitled James Franco: New Film Stills, will show the actor recreating photographer Cindy Sherman's famous Untitled Film Stills series. He has taken Sherman's place as the subject of the stills and has donned wigs and women's clothes to recreate the images, although he bizarrely retained his beard and moustache.
Franco tells Hintmag.com, "Cindy Sherman's groundbreaking series Untitled Film Stills showed us how we look at ourselves in film. These were performances within multiple frames of significance. But Sherman was an artist looking at the film industry from the outside. I have started on the inside. I earn my living in the commercial film business. This new series of film stills puts one more frame around the dialogue Sherman introduced."
The actor is due to attend a reception at the gallery on Thursday (10Apr14) evening before the official launch. The exhibition will run until 3 May (14).
