Singer Idina Menzel is hoping her new track I See You will touch troubled souls as it did her.
The Frozen star reveals she shed a few tears when she first heard the song, because the lyrics were so powerful - and she still struggles to contain her emotions when she sings the tune while thinking about fans who are going through personal hells in their lives.
"I realised how profound it is and how many people out there wrestle with insecurities," Idina explains in a new online video.
"Someone that really looks at you, into your soul, into your eyes, and understands you... I think we all just wanna feel like we have that."
The singer even tears up in the video for the song, which features the line: "Here's to the hopeless, the almost forgotten".
I See You features on Idina's new album, titled Idina, which will be released on 23 September (16), the same day as the new record by her former Wicked castmate Kristin Chenoweth, The Art of Elegance.
Menzel previously told fans she opted to name the album simply Idina, because it's full of such personal songs.
"I want you to know me on a first-name basis, I guess," she said during a Facebook Live chat last month (Aug16). "I poured my heart out and used my music as a place to kind of figure some things out. It’s a really personal album."
The album, which will be Idina's first since her holiday-themed record Holiday Wishes in 2014, comes at a busy time for Menzel - she has also signed up to tackle Bette Midler's role of aspiring singer CC in a TV movie version of the beloved 1988 film Beaches.
Idina has recorded new versions of Midler's classic songs Wind Beneath My Wings and The Glory of Love for the project.
