The former fiance of S Club 7 singer Hannah Spearritt has been cleared of assaulting her.
Adam Thomas, 36, was slapped with one charge of common assault by beating for allegedly hurting the British pop star during a dispute at her home in June (16) and one count of witness intimidation for allegedly sending her threatening text messages.
He denied the charges and appeared in Kingston Crown Court, just outside of London, for the beginning of the trial on Thursday (10Nov16) but the case sensationally collapsed due to a lack of evidence.
Prosecutor Chris Hewertson told the court,“This was a prosecution case properly brought in the public interest... However there is not here at trial sufficient evidence which the prosecution can proceeded on this indictment.”
Court officials told the Mirror Online the prosecution had entered no evidence for either counts and three of their witnesses were unable to appear in court.
“In these circumstances, with the crown having offered no evidence I can formerly record the finding of not guilty," Judge Michael Hunter said, according to The Sun newspaper. “The defendant can be discharged.”
The pop star, 35, dated fitness trainer Thomas in 2013 and they reportedly got engaged. They split last year (15) and Spearritt rekindled her romance with S Club bandmate Paul Cattermole, which has since come to an end.
