Glee star Lauren Potter is engaged to long-term boyfriend Timothy Spear.
The 26-year-old actress, best known for playing cheerleader Becky Jackson on the hit musical show, has known Timothy since they were babies.
And on Sunday (31Jul16) during a romantic picnic in Laguna Beach, California, Timothy decided to pop the question.
"He picked out the ring, made payments on it, and then planned the picnic and the moment to get down on one knee to ask her to promise to be his one-and-only and marry him when they are ready," Lauren‘s mother Robin Sinkhorn told People.com. "Then they watched the sunset together."
Both Lauren and Timothy were born with Down's Syndrome, and their families initially met when the pair attended the same infant stimulation classes at the Children's Center in Riverside.
However, it wasn't until years later that the pair's friendship turned into romance.
"We've kept in touch over the years, but it wasn't until the kids were reunited while they were both living in Laguna Beach," Robin added. "When Lauren ended a relationship, Timothy immediately asked her out and they have been together since."
While Lauren is most well known for her role in Glee from 2009 to 2015, she also recently appeared in an episode of political dramedy Veep. She has also worked as an advocate for those with special needs, serving on President Obama's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities and traveling extensively to give speeches promoting inclusion.
In an interview earlier this year (16) to promote National Women's Health Week in the U.S., Lauren explained it's only with the support of her family and friends that she has been able to achieve what she has.
"Instead of thinking you can't do something, just think you can do anything you put your mind to," she explained. "I've had a lot of challenges in my life, but with the support of people who love and care about me, I have been able to live out my dreams and do things that a lot of people said I couldn't do."
