Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot has thanked fans for the "craziest weekend" of her life after her superhero movie stormed the box office worldwide.
The Israeli beauty portrays the titular Amazonian warrior in the new DC Comics blockbuster, which shattered domestic box office records upon its release last week (02Jun17), hauling in over $100 million in its debut weekend, and bowing globally with a stunning $223 million gross as critics and film fans alike raved about the movie.
Now Gal has taken to social media to express her profound gratitude to fans for turning Wonder Woman into such a huge success.
"I just wanted to take a moment and thank you," she begins in a video message posted online. "Thank you for making this weekend the most amazing weekend and craziest weekend I've ever had in my life."
"You made this movie what it is and your love and support for this character and for myself are not to be taken for granted," Gal continues. "I mean, Wonder Woman, number one movie in the whole world. This is all you. I'm sending you guys all the good energy and love back."
The caption for the clip reads: "A special message to my fans. Thank you all, I love you all so much".
Wonder Woman's huge opening, the biggest for a film directed by a female, has already sparked talk of a sequel, although Patty Jenkins has yet to officially sign on. She is set to begin negotiations with Warner Bros. bosses to return for a follow-up, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Gadot, meanwhile, already has an option in place for Wonder Woman 2 as part of her overall DC movies contract.
