Kesha thanked her fans for their ongoing support during her legal battle with Dr. Luke in an emotional speech at her concert on Thursday night (22Sep16).
The 29-year-old singer was performing in Brooklyn, New York, as part of her Kesha and the Creepies: The F**k the World Tour, and appeared to be struggling to control her emotions as she referred to the legal drama that has consumed her life for almost two years.
"I honestly don't know if I would have made it the past few years without you guys, some of you may know I'm in a lawsuit," Kesha told the audience. "Thank you for standing by me."
The Tik Tok hit maker first filed a lawsuit against producer Dr. Luke, real name Lukasz Gottwald, in October 2014, accusing him of sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally abusing her for more than a decade.
Gottwald has always vehemently denied the claims and is countersuing the singer for defamation and breach of contract.
As part of the case, Kesha requested a preliminary injunction at New York Supreme Court, which would allow her to work on and release new music without Dr. Luke, but this request was denied in February (16).
As she continued her speech, Kesha told concertgoers she is hopeful that at some point in the future she will be able to treat them to the new songs she has been working on.
"I think that there's some people that were thinking I'll just sit around waiting to die. That somebody f***ed with the wrong woman!" she told the crowd.
"I could not do this without you so f***ing thank you. I can't share my new music with you. Keep praying, someday it will come. I can't wait for that."
Kesha has been performing covers during her tour so far, such as Dolly Parton's Jolene and Grace's You Don't Own Me. But she told fans that while the case against Dr. Luke remains ongoing, she isn't letting the situation get her down.
"No one can own you. Because to truly own you means to own your happiness," she said. "No one can own your f***ing happiness. Promise me you will never let them take that from you!
"Ain't nobody got time for hate. Always have hope in your heart. I do!"
