Actress Ellie Kemper has given birth to her first child.
The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star and her comedy writer husband Michael Koman have welcomed their first child, according to People.com. Further details about the newborn, including gender and name, have not been revealed.
The 36-year-old actress, who doesn't have social media, announced her pregnancy during an appearance on talk program The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in April (16).
"I have big news! I’m pregnant!" she said, before revealing she was with child while filming the second series of her Netflix comedy and it only became an issue "at the very end" when she read in a script that her character was due to go on a rollercoaster.
"It was still very early on, but I felt like a pregnant lady on a rollercoaster was not ideal so I had to tell my boss, Tina Fey," Ellie said. "She knows every secret. I told her before I told my mom."
Together they decided to keep the pregnancy a secret and pretend Ellie had a back injury so she couldn't shoot the scene, but the lie was hard to keep up.
"I could not act like I had a back injury," the Bridesmaids star laughed. "I’m an actress, presumably. It was so (hard). Someone asked, ‘What’s wrong?’ and words escaped me. I’m like, ‘I sprained my spine.’ You can’t sprain your spine! You can’t do that!
"I kept forgetting I had (a back injury) so I kept doing things someone with a back injury can’t do. They’d say ‘Lunch!’ and I’d like leap up and do cartwheels to catering. You’re not supposed to do that!”
She also said on chat show The View that the couple, who married in 2012, were not planning ahead and didn't know whether it would be a boy or girl and told ETOnline she would be taking time off to raise the child before shooting the third season of Kimmy Schmidt.
