Daisy Ridley has dismissed Star Wars fans' theories that Felicity Jones plays her character's mother in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Daisy shot to fame playing Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and fans heavily speculated about Rey's parentage ahead of the film's December (15) release, yet the answer was never revealed in the movie.
Fans are still convinced Rey will have a powerful family connection, and jumped onto the idea Felicity's rebel fighter character Jyn was her mother after the trailer for Rogue One, a stand alone Star Wars film, was released last week (ends10Apr16).
However Daisy has now dismissed the idea, claiming fans have only made the connection because Rey and Jyn both have British accents and similar hair.
“I’m not being funny you guys, but just because she’s white and got brown hair… it doesn’t mean she’s my mom,” she told MTV backstage at the MTV Movie Awards.
Daisy claims she doesn't know if Rey is a Jedi, but she is aware of who Rey's parents are, and she doesn't think it will be the explosive revelation fans are anticipating.
“I think the amazing thing about (The Force Awakens) is that Finn and Rey don’t come from anywhere, and they find a place," she continues. "So to me, it’s funny that people think it’s so important because I don’t really think it is."
The actress picked up the Best Breakthrough Performance MTV Movie Award on Saturday night (09Apr16), the day before her 24th birthday on Sunday (10Apr16).
The Force Awakens was a triple winner on the night, taking home further golden popcorn statuettes for Best Villain (Adam Driver) and Movie of the Year.
Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker, celebrated Daisy's birthday on Twitter by sharing a picture of the actress giving him a piggyback. He wrote, "A long time ago (last week I think) In a galaxy far, far way(@PinewoodStudios ) THIS happened! Happy Birthday Daisy!"
