Rocker Chad Kroeger continued to spark rumors of a reconciliation with his ex Avril Lavigne after inviting her to join him at Canada's Juno Awards on Sunday night (03Apr16).
The Nickelback frontman and his band may have lost the Rock Album of the Year trophy at the music prizegiving, but he still had a night to remember when he was joined by Avril, six months after the pair announced its separation in September (15), after two years of marriage.
The two walked the red carpet at Calgary, Alberta's Scotiabank Saddledome, where Avril told Canada's Etalk that she was simply by his side for moral support.
"I came with Chad because Nickelback got nominated," she said, "and I'm just here supporting him."
Chad was also coy about a possible reconciliation, joking, "I got tired walking around with my band members, so I went and found hottie here," referring to the Sk8r Boi star.
Prior to the ceremony, Avril teased her appearance at the event on Instagram, by posting a video from the 2003 prizegiving, when she won her first Juno - presented to her by Chad and his Nickelback bandmates.
Chad, who also helped induct singer/songwriter Burton Cummings into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame during the Junos, previously joined Avril as her date at the Clive Davis & The Recording Academy's 2016 Pre-Grammy Gala in February (16).
Neither Avril nor Chad were sporting their wedding rings at the music awards, but it's clear they remain close friends - they have been working on music together since their split.
The Canadian pop star announced the break-up on social media with a photograph from her wedding day.
She told fans, "It is with a heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today... Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments. We are still and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support."
Avril was previously married to Sum 41 rocker Deryck Whibley.
