Country star Brantley Gilbert is preparing to become a father for the first time.
The singer and his wife Amber have been trying for a baby since tying the knot in June, 2015, and when Brantley discovered they had finally conceived, he broke down in tears.
"I'm not an emotional guy, but this has got me crying like a baby," he tells People.com. "I'm pretty good around other folks now, but when I'm by myself, if I look at one of the pictures (ultrasounds) from the doctor's office, I lose a few tears."
The star reveals he and Amber had previously consulted medical experts about possibly trying in vitro fertilization (IVF), but they were hesitant about the process, so falling pregnant naturally came as a pleasant surprise for the couple.
"We'd been to see a fertility specialist, and two different folks that told me it would be close to a miracle if it happened without IVF," he explains. "I'm not much of a quitter, but I was really, really frustrated."
Amber, who is due in November (17), broke the news to Brantley while he was on tour in February (17), just before he was set to perform in Louisville, Kentucky.
"She handed me a box and there were three pregnancy tests in there and all of them were positive," he recalls. "I think I stared at it for at least two minutes without saying anything because I was literally in shock. We'd been told it was just not in the cards, and I'm staring at this answer to many, many, many prayers."
Amber, a former schoolteacher, was Brantley's childhood sweetheart. They reconnected after the musician called off his engagement to actress/singer Jana Kramer in the summer of 2013, and he popped the question in late 2014.
