Avengers: Age Of Ultron star Elizabeth Olsen dumped ex-fiance Boyd Holbrook over the phone as he was mourning the death of a close friend.
The actor has opened up about his double blow in the new issue of Man of the World magazine, admitting the Olsen break-up was like "a divorce"
The 34 year old says, "On the same day that my best friend died, I got a call from my girl to tell me it was over."
Olsen and Holbrook began dating after meeting on the set of their 2012 film Very Good Girls, and the pair became engaged in March, 2014, after the actor proposed during a vacation in Paris, France.
The actress appeared giddy about the romance when she spoke to Marie Claire U.K. last year, stating, "I love being in a relationship a lot", and adding she was enjoying making wedding plans.
Holbrook's pal, photographer David Armstrong, died in October, 2014, and the actor claims he was "the first person in my life to encourage me".
"He told me to do everything I wanted to do," the actor tells the publication. "No one had ever told me that before. He was a very important figure in my life. Important figure is not even close to what he was."
Since the break-up, Olsen has been romantically linked to Thor star Tom Hiddlestone, her I Saw the Light biopic co-star, but the actress has shot down the relationship rumors, telling website Refinery29.com, "People can think what they want to think. I mean, we definitely are friends and we've known each other for about four years. And we happened to be at a restaurant at a wrong time having dinner. We all go out to dinner."
Olsen has also dismissed rumors of romantic hook-ups with her Avengers co-stars, stating, "Well, apparently I'm dating Chris Evans and apparently I've dated Jeremy Renner... I don't react to it."
