Ariana Grande has distanced herself from the grammatical errors in the lyrics of her new song Break Free, revealing she initially refused to sing lines that were littered with bad English.
The 21-year-old singer is destined to have another huge success with her Zedd collaboration, which was written by hitmaker Max Martin, but she's well aware the track features grammar mistakes.
She tells Time magazine, "I fought him (Martin) on it the whole time: 'I am not going to sing a grammatically incorrect lyric, help me God!' Max was like, 'It's funny, just do it!'
"I know it's funny and silly, but grammatically incorrect things make me cringe sometimes."
In the end she agreed to sing the lines Martin had written, which include lyrics like "Now that I've become who I really are" and "I only wanna die alive".
She adds, "I need to shake it off and let it go and be a little less rigid and old. I'm, like, 90. I need to not be that old."
