Tori Spelling on Reuniting with Jennie Garth for "Mystery Girls"

What's it like working with BFF/fellow 90210 alum Jenny Garth?

It's amazing. It's it's so funny how life comes full circle and it really has with us and we've known each other over 20 years, oh my god. I know. We were teenagers. We met when I was 16, she was 17. So it's crazy. We've known each other forever. And now between the two of us, we have seven kids. So, um, it's like our friendship has just evolved. We were girls then and now we're women and moms and we still have, you know, a really tight friendship and it just came back together to perfection.

What's the secret to to your friendship? To your relationship?

I you know what, I think it's just trust and love and we totally are different people than we were then and that's when I think friendships change and you go in different directions. And friends you had in your teens and 20s, you aren't friends with today. And we are able to, I mean, we've stayed in touch, but it's not like, you know, we were in touch every single day when we came back, it was as if we had not missed a day. Yeah. We just picked right back up. So that's a testament to a true friendship, I think.

Totally. And not only are you co-starring on the show, which is very funny and and super cute, Um, you're also boss ladies.

We are. Yeah.

How's that? How's that?

That's amazing. Um, I actually created the show for ABC Family. And that was fun. That was that was my dream was to always do comedy and do a sitcom. Um, I'm known for Donna and drama and stuff, but I guess Donna was kind of funny.

You didn't get to like flex your comedy muscle on 90210.

A little bit. I tried the best I could with all you know. It's like, why didn't my dad say cut? Yeah, exactly. The teen angst, but um, I tried to get it in there. Um, but I think I know myself as comedy, but I think people still are like, oh you do comedy. So this was something I created and I really wanted to do physical comedy. And I used to love mysteries in the 80s, my dad's mystery shows and Hart to Hart and Charlie's Angels. So I just paired those two together. And a little bit of myself in there because people are always like, you can't take the Tori Spelling out of the Tori Spelling, so just throw it all in there, you know? Um, so it's a wink wink at my life and everything. And then Jenny was the perfect partner and now we're both EPs on the show and we literally have so much fun. We do everything. We're in the writer's room and the sets and the wardrobe and it's great.

And I like that you can make fun of yourself. Like you were talking about not being able to take the Tori Spelling out of the Tori Spelling.

Right. So you just got to go with it. Um that's what seems to have stuck over the years, so I just have to go with it. And, you know, doing self-deprecating humor is kind of what's gotten me through everything. Yeah. Um, you know, I would laugh at something before they could and then they're like, oh, we're out of stuff then. So, you know, it's kind of the way to to fight it all. And um, I love doing that stuff.

On Mystery Girls, you ladies are solving a lot of crimes and you have some special guests too.

We do.

Some 90210 alum in addition to you and Jenny.

Joey Tata comes back for the High School Mystery episode that we're really excited about. He plays my high school principal. We go back to West Beverly. My character Holly Hamilton. Wink wink. Um, A-K-A Donna Martin in disguise maybe. I don't know. Totally. Uh, yeah, we go back to high school undercover for the principal. Joey Tata, who's N-A-T from the Peach Pit. Um, the high school prank and he wants us to come solve. I go undercover as a student. Am I not? And Jenny goes undercover as the P. E. teacher. So it's pretty funny. I mean, it's really campy, people. It's. And a lot of physical comedy too.

Do you have any bruises? Any

I have bruises every week. Really? Yes. I go home and my kids are like, what happened to you? And I was like, don't work. I still got it at 41. You're like, I'm just fierce. When I created, it's so funny. I tell the writers every week, I'm like, when I created the show, I this is not what I really had in mind with all this stunt work. I was like, I just want to look really pretty and be funny and like sitting in cafes and like gossiping and doing pop culture and being like, look at my nails. And being funny. I was like, I wasn't picturing like throwing myself on thugs and like running and like not so much physical. The last episode I did all this stuff and like credit shops and stuff and then yeah.

I like it. I like it. Pretty footwork. You're also solving mysteries like we said and you have to gather clues. Uh-oh. But I want to see if you're good at giving out clues. So my dear producer, Gabby, has put some mystery celebrities on these note cards. So I'm gonna put them on my forehead and you are gonna tell me

Yeah. I'm always terrible at this.

Okay. Using clues. Oh, I didn't see that one. Nope, we're not. Okay, we're ready. Who am I?

Um, I'm so bad at this. Um, young music guy, in trouble right now.
