What's up guys? Leslie Robbins here for Young Hollywood, once again going behind the scenes at Dancing with the Stars. This time, I'm crashing a rehearsal with Cheryl Burke and Terrell Owens. Show me a step. Show me one little Show our one of your steps. What you could share Oh, okay. Oh, that's pretty good. There you go. Yeah, see, you know. Okay. Got it. That's not the only step, but No, we can do But the thing is, it's one thing doing it by yourself, and now do it to some music. Wait, Cheryl, what do I do after this now? I'm just getting You're making it really far. What is the magic between the two of you?
Well, it's hard work. It's being here for most of the day, every single day, seven days a week, really.
How are you doing with those hours?
Uh, it's been tough, but, you know, I think, I don't know if it was week three or four. She said the only reason we were making it was because I was smiling. It wasn't my dancing. But, no, seriously, I mean, it's been a lot of hard work. As she said, it's been a number of hours spent in these studios, and honestly, I wouldn't have gotten as far as I I have without her. I mean, I'm a non-dancer, no dance experience, and I think everybody has seen the progression. It's been tough. I don't think the audience and people that watch the show. I know they've probably heard, but they really have no idea how much work it takes to to pull off what we've been able to pull off on Mondays. It takes a little bit more time for me to really grasp the concept of the choreography, the steps, and me trying to just memorize everything. And she's kind of adapted to how I learn things. So, she's kind of has used some of that to kind of piece the routines together. So, again, for me, it takes a little bit longer.
You've said the word non-dancer a few times now. That's impossible because you're so good. Cheryl, he's really good. Is that because of you, or he's really got it in those big feet, which you like to call them. I'm sure
Um, yeah, he's he works really hard. So, I mean, I push him and I know that it's there. And because of his hard work, I can keep pushing him and make his routines more and more challenging. Um, that's the only way to stay in this competition, cuz he's competing against people with dance experience on the show. Right. So.
So, what sets you two apart from the rest of the competition?
I think My smile.
Yeah, that too.
Yeah, don't lose that. Six-time NFL pro bowler. What football techniques can make their way into the ballroom?
Nothing. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Nothing. Um, working against me, actually. Yeah, you think with football, people kind of underestimate really dancing and how much you're on your feet and just the repetition to kind of just really kind of make it look flawless and clean as it can be on on the day of the shows. But this is definitely a lot a lot more hours on the feet than football.
But your dance teacher here has won the Mirrorball twice. Yeah. Once with a former NFL player. So, we have it working for you here. You think of Hines Ward, she won with Emmitt Smith. Athletes kind of seem to do very well on this show for whatever reason.
And I think it's really kind of just our our our mental capacity and just just that competitiveness uh, of really wanting to compete and and do as best as we can because we know that we're out of our element. We're out to prove ourselves in a in a world that we're basically uncomfortable with. This season, I mean, we're competing, you know, against some some good people.
You're in your own, yeah. He's in his own competition and his own world. Right. Yeah, everyone's always asking, you know, what um, who's your biggest competition? And it's it's himself, to be honest. He just needs to improve every single week. And and hopefully, we'll still stay in it.
