Young Hollywood

the whole social network is all of that, isn't it? You can you can create a persona that absolutely doesn't exist. You know. Do you have one created that you set?

Red Horse Ranch

I have seven.

Young Hollywood

Has anybody ever sent people anything just like I have seven. Hey guys, Jess here with the deliciously handsome and talented Michael de Varz. Hi, how are you? So, we're here at South by Southwest at your friend's beautiful ranch.

Red Horse Ranch

For the last, you know, a few years, I've been on TV and you know and acting and and exploring all of that, which I did as a child. But then I thought, you know, I really what do I love? What's the what's the thing that I love the most and that's playing music live. So, I put a band together in LA of guys I I I've never met. So, so we walk into a room and right from the get go. It was astounding. And you look at people in the eye who you've never met before and you don't even have to speak because the music will unite you. It was kind of a house that just turned into a recording studio. It's turned into jamming in the living room to jamming in the garage. And then one day I said, I'm just going to build this and it it's like Field of Dreams. Build it and it will come. And now they come and we make really good music here. It's been great.

Young Hollywood

Now what about up at your house? Where do the guys stay when they come here?

Red Horse Ranch

They all stay here. And I have a 1956 Spartan trailer. Did you see it?

Young Hollywood

I did, actually. And I thought it was awesome.

Red Horse Ranch

The band stay there and they stay in my house. Uh, usually the lead singer and the guitar player like Michael are staying in the house now. And Steve Jones from the Pistols is staying here and great rider show up. And my band, Pamela de Var is staying in the Spartan this year. It's really great. And the vibe is cool. It's all about the vibe. As you can see, they're jamming in there. It's just got a really good vibe. So, if you're doing South by Southwest, which is a music festival, everybody really is, you know, here to prove something, get a record deal, maintain their legendary status. Whatever the reason is they're here. You're on display. You you have to do it and you know. And the thing about the music thing is, is that to be really, you know, effective and enjoy it, you have to let go of all of that stuff and surrender that stuff and just be yourself and play. So, after this exhaustive week for the majority of bands, they come out here, you know the ones that are still alive from that year, and and go into that barn down there. And they come in there, they relax and they play. And it's and they enjoy it. And they're there to enjoy themselves. No other reason. We we started with a football game and then it just started with people coming over and just every Sunday sort of after South by. Now it's sort of an annual jam. Michael de Var is playing this year with uh the rumor is a band that's playing Stubbs tomorrow. I don't know if anybody knows who's playing Stubbs tomorrow. The rumor is that they're going to be here, but I can't really disclose it or I would get in trouble. My Blackberry would blow up and I would just it would be awful. But is it the but the the phenomenon of Blackberry, of course, your your Blackberry, isn't it? But the whole social network is all about it, isn't it? I mean, it's like you can you can create a persona that absolutely doesn't exist. You know.

Young Hollywood

Do you have one created that you set?

Red Horse Ranch

I have seven.

Young Hollywood

Has anybody ever sent you anything just like obscenely crazy on like BBM, on, you know, on your Blackberry or anything like that?

Red Horse Ranch

Yes, of course. I I uh I get mad, you know, texts, but I encourage it. It's a fun, family environment with a lot of rock and roll, you know, overtones. It's all good. So, let's try it again real quick. I'm going to take a break.
