PHILIPPE’S SUPER FAMOUS FRENCH DIP

Philips opened in 1908. It's the oldest continually operating restaurant in Los Angeles. It's credited for inventing the French dip sandwich. 10 years after the restaurant opened, supposedly it was an accident. The leap, who opened the restaurant, dropped a French roll into the pan drippings. The customer was in a hurry, took the sandwich as is, enjoyed it very much, went back to the precinct and brought some officers back over. He was supposedly a police officer and requested that the sandwich be dipped, and that was really the birth of the French dip sandwich. It was an accident.
