NBA Invades the ESPYS

Welcome to Young Hollywood. Hey everyone, Nikki Novak here for Young Hollywood, hanging out at the EA suite at the ESPN Magazine SP Style Studio. Hey we're here with Ray Allen. I put on my highest boots for you and I'm still feeling very short. Normally I'm very tall compared to the people I interview.

Well, that's how I feel always. Yeah. In my locker room, I'm like this all day long, like I'm one of the short guys.

What brings you to the SP this year?

You know, I've been in the NBA for 15 years. So, you know, being around for a while, I was I'm able to stay healthy and um, you know, when you look up every now and then, you know, you when you're on the precipice of doing something um, you know, great in your sport. you know, so I'm kind of somewhere.

You broke a record. Yeah. for the most three pointers of anybody of all time.

I wasn't going to say that, but yeah.

Well, I said it for you.

Yeah, you did.

You can be humble. I'll be the one that's building you up. Yeah. How do you actually do it? Like when it comes to game time?

Um, for me, it's just muscle memory. You know, I do the same thing every day and I work um on what I do, what I might have to do. It's almost like sometimes when I'm playing, the job slows down, the game slows down for me and I can see it and when it may be going 100 miles per hour for somebody else, for me it's just going, you know, two miles per hour and I I feel like I'm moving in slow motion because I'm right there.

Mind of a champion. I think. See, I'm propping you up again. Standing next to JJ Barea, one of the biggest stories of the year in sports. K, first of all, basketball player. We stand back to back. I got I got my heels on. You had like this incredible season. You're sort of like the breakthrough guy. what's your secret?

It was awesome. I was lucky that I got a good team, great teammates, a great coach, a great owner.

You're going to be sweet and give everybody else all the credit.

No, I know yeah. I brought the energy. I did what I had to do and it worked out. It worked out for some. Now we're just enjoying it every day.

You brought the Puerto Rican energy. Yeah. So growing up, did you say, I want to be a basketball player? Did everybody say no, you can't?

Oh no, I was doing all the sports. Baseball, basketball, volleyball, tennis and then when I got older, I think college, then I just took basketball for real.

What are you doing in off season? Are you back in Puerto Rico?

Back in Puerto Rico.

Partying?

partying and going to the beach.

Are you just the biggest hero there ever?

Yeah, right now, yeah.

Really? Can you walk down the street or is it like.

Oh no, no, yeah, it's madness right now.

Do you mind it or do you like it?

I like it.

So you're chatting with Russell Westbrook, the unbelievable Russell Westbrook. So you're a UCLA boy. Yes. And you're back in your home. How do people respond to you here? Cuz every time you play against the Lakers, you like have insane games.

Uh, I mean, they respond well. I have a I have a little light cheer, you know, when I come back home, it's always a good.

A light cheer?

Yeah, you know, like a, you know, more than normal, I will say.

Are you a surfer? What do you do in your off season?

Oh no. Play video games most of the time.

You do. Have you played NCAA 12 yet?

No, I haven't played it. I've pretty much I guess I'll play it tomorrow. That's when it comes out.

You can play it now if you want to play it.

Yeah, I'm going to play a little bit, but then I have to get home before the traffic.

Once you get home in the traffic, Yes. We have something for you to do. Yes. love gaming so much. I will. I will be. We have for you. You NCAA 12. This is like the VIP package. See that? Can you do that reaction again? That was a great reaction.
