Young Hollywood

Welcome to YoungHollywood. com Hey Young Hollywood, Larissa Wohl here hanging out with We the Kings on the set of their new music video, "Heaven Can Wait." Now, talk to me a little bit about the concept behind all this.

Guest

It's a best in show event. Um you know, like the Westminster uh dog show, where they trot their dogs around the little blue carpet and they have judges come in and and judge on how poofy the poodle is or whatever. That's what we're doing and uh it's a really cool concept for the video because we've never done anything with uh animals.

Young Hollywood

Talk to me about your band a little bit. What is what's your style? What's the sound? Who would you describe yourself like or talk to me?

Guest

I think we're like Frank Sinatra gone wild. We play like happy fun pop rock music. We try to put smiles on people's faces. That's that's I guess the key to the music.

Young Hollywood

Is there one person you'd love to collaborate with in the future?

Guest

I actually heard today that uh Adam Sandler has an incredible voice. Uh we would like to work with him.

Young Hollywood

This hit, "Heaven Can Wait" has already gone up the charts. Yes. Why do people love "Heaven Can Wait"?

Guest

We just wrote a really like fun song and it was like kind of a different lyrical concept than we've ever written before. And um I think people just kind of like uh connected to it and put it into their own lives.

Young Hollywood

And how did the band actually come together?

Guest

That's a funny question. You should ask that. Uh no, we uh we came together in uh high school. Actually, we were all part of different bands and then Travis had actually his brother playing uh in his band. He was the drummer. And then Drew and I were in a band playing guitar and bass. And then Danny was in a separate band playing drums. And we came as a superpower together in Bradenton, Florida and now we're here today.

Young Hollywood

Musical inspirations.

Guest

Oh, wow. Uh, Michael Bolton. I love Lady Gaga. I would say Leonard Skynyrd.

Young Hollywood

Tell me how you got roped into coming out here for for the music video.

Adam Sandler

Actually, it was a couple things. One, Nick Goose and the director directed "Grandma's Boy", plus I've known him since he was 16. And he called and said, "I'm directing a video for this band, We the Kings." And I was like, "All right, that sounds good."

Young Hollywood

Now, they're cool, right? What what is it about their sound that you liked?

Adam Sandler

I don't know, it just made me I just liked the song the minute I clicked on it on iTunes. I was like, "Oh, okay. I could listen to this driving down the road."

Young Hollywood

Have you ever worked on a music video before?

Adam Sandler

Only like ones that we did ourselves, like uh like for Adam Sandler's songs. I am working with We the Kings. A fantastic group of boys from Florida. Great kids. I've known Nick Goose and the guy directing this video since uh a little movie called "The Wedding Singer" that I did with Adam Sandler. It was it was a little movie. Tiny one. Well yeah. The only movie bigger than our opening weekend might have been the Titanic. But that was a big movie.

Young Hollywood

Music video shoots. Movie shoots. What's the difference?

Adam Sandler

Huge difference. So video shoots are just basically one day or two day, you know, knock-offs. Pop it off and we're done. We're good. Yeah.
