Christmas in the young Hollywood studio. Nice. I'm here with the lovely Abigail Breslin. How are you?
I'm great. How are you?
We We've both been excited about this. To have you on the sofa. Really? It's a pleasure. Because she looks really just not impressed with the whole situation. No, this is what happens when an Oscar nominated actress gets on the sofa. She's just like, this is the worst thing ever. No, she's not. She's really impressed. That's her impressed face. This is it. Thank you. And she is impressed because you're very impressive. I was trying to give her a legit head massage but she was just like, I've had better.
Really?
Yeah, that's what she said to me. We all love a good head massage. Who doesn't? Who doesn't? Who doesn't? Um, but what we also love is August Osage County.
Thank you.
Your movie. Your new movie.
Yes.
With this phenomenal cast. I've never seen anything like it before. It's crazy. It really is crazy. It's like you see a cast of a movie and you're like that's a big cast. I don't think there's a word to explain this movie.
Epic.
Epic. I think it's bigger than epic though. Really? Yeah.
Thank you. I'll take that as a compliment.
Massively, hugely epic. Yeah.
Okay. Okay. I'm down with it.
Okay. August Osage County. Um, how was it being attached to a movie like this? Is it a lot of pressure going into it when you know the cast it's attached?
Yeah. It is It is really terrifying to be honest with you. Um, but I just felt really honored to be a part of it. Um, I was excited just to go in and read for it. Um, and I didn't think that I was gonna get it. And then I found out that I got it and I cried. I was so excited. Um, and yeah, it was it was really It was such an honor.
And were you familiar because it's from a play, were you familiar with with the play before that?
I've never seen the play. It came out when I was about ten.
You got an excuse. You got an excuse.
A little bit over my head and it's kind of dark, so we don't want.
A little bit. No, not for ten-year-olds. The little kids don't go see it.
Not for ten-year-olds. No, no.
Um, and directed by John Wells.
Directed by John Wells, yeah.
A very amazing, you know, experienced director. Yeah. Um, what was it like working with him as well?
It was incredible. You know, he he really He knew the story so well and he and Tracy Letts, the writer, worked together on it. And um, any questions that we had, he really was able to answer fully and um, it was amazing.
He must have even been scared going into it thinking that every day. Oh. No, just another day in the office for John.
I think it was a nerve-racking experience for Yeah. Definitely for him but yeah.
Um, and you play Jane, who's quite quite a complicated character for you, isn't it? Um, got some issues.
Yeah. She's got some issues. Yeah, Jane's got some issues, you know. She's um she's very uh, you know, she's 14 and she's kind of going through a weird time in life. Um, and I think that 14 is just kind of a weird age, you know. You're you're kind of expected to be super mature but you're not allowed to do anything that requires maturity. So she's going through a weird time and she goes through some issues and it's a little bit of a breakdown in the movie so it's very exciting. I loved playing her though.
Is there any uh, scene in particular that you loved?
The dinner scene is incredible.
Right.
Um, amazing to film. Amazing to watch being made but um
Was that four days to do that one scene, was that?
Four days. Four days to do the one dinner scene. It was crazy.
Did you eat the same food throughout the four days?
We did. I I chose to eat minimal, drink a lot of water.
Okay. And working with all these amazing actors and you're still so young. Like insanely young. Is there anyone that you haven't
10 years old. No, but I did. I started acting when I was three. I did my first commercial and then I started um I did my first movie when I was five. So.
It's crazy. Is there any actor in particular that you haven't worked with yet that you'd love to?
I really love Laura Linney. Okay. I really love um she's like one of my favorite actresses. I love her. And I love Michelle Williams. I mean huge fan of.
So there are a few out there.
Yeah, a few. Oh my gosh. There's many many more. There's many.
Okay. Um, but talking about Christmas, which I had no idea, you're You're amazing, talented musician as well. You've got a Christmas song out now on iTunes.
I do. On iTunes. Yes, Christmas in New York. It's called Christmas in New York, yeah. I wrote it and it's out on iTunes. And I wrote it while I was um filming August Osage County. It's basically just about feeling homesick and wanting it to be Christmas. I'm obsessed with Christmas to like Okay. You you wouldn't even believe how how obsessed I am with Christmas. And so I wrote it during Hurricane Sandy in New York. And um Yeah. And I was just homesick and missing my family and That's what I wrote about.
If Santa was watching this interview right now, because you never know where he's gonna be.
No, you don't know.
Um, what would be on your Christmas list? The top three things.
Oh, I really want I was just talking about what I wanted. Georgie, but you can't have that. I want Georgie really badly but she doesn't want me. Um, I want a camera. Like a good camera. Okay. Because I like taking pictures and that's what I really want.
Okay, a camera. I think Santa could swing that. I mean, you deserve it. You work so hard.
Oh, thank you.
And uh, we could we're gonna play a little bit of Christmas music, are we?
Yeah, are we gonna write one together?
We are gonna write one. We've got We've got a guitar. Do you play guitar?
I don't.
Okay. It's a little bit out of tune.
I don't do anything. Well that will make me sound better.
So I can I'll write the chords and then you can just write some lyrics right now. Okay?
Okay. Um, do we want to be dark or like very happy?
Let's do a happy Christmas song. Oh, a drum. You got to You got to start. Christmas in the young Hollywood studio. Nice. Um, with Abigail Breslin. She's so talented. Watch her in the movies.
