(soft music) Hey guys, Cierra Ramirez here, with Young Hollywood. Here to spill the tea behind my tune, "Over Your Head." (symphony music) ♪ You're in way over your head ♪ ♪ But I know that you're good for it ♪ ♪ But only when I want it ♪ (upbeat music) I feel like a professional pourer. Sounds good. ♪ I pulled the knife and you took the cut ♪ ♪ Damn it hurt and you loved it ♪ (upbeat music) I pulled the knife and you took the cut. Damn it hurt and you loved it. I feel like this is kind of at the point where you're, you know, after a break up and kind of trying to take your power back. You've already been hurt before, so you're trying to keep that from happening again.

So it's trying to, be as in control of the situation as you can. So you know, kinda telling someone how it is. Like, look, I'm gonna hurt you maybe, but this is exactly what to expect from me. And, it's also someone that's not exactly saying no to it. I do think that people enjoy pain in a way, I guess getting themselves into situations that they know are probably not gonna have the best outcome for them. But I mean, even trying to protect your heart, we all know, probably will end up going pretty badly. (laughing) Do I prefer the game or no chase at all? Hmm, I mean, I think it's always the fun part of a new relationship, is kind of the push and pull and like, the flirtiness of it all.

But, I think at the end of the day I'm someone that kinda likes laying it all out there on the line, which is I feel like why this is as kind of blunt as it is. It's like, exactly. Like, look, I'm not down for a relationship right now, but I also don't wanna be with anyone else, so let's just have fun with it, and see, you know, this is how it's gonna go. ♪ You keep hitting me up ♪ ♪ When I don't know I don't know ♪ ♪ How to do love no more ♪ You keep hitting me up when I don't know I don't know how to do love no more.

Well if you've been hurt before, it's just, I feel like you're kind of struggling, and with the idea of opening up to someone else again, and kind of putting yourself in that situation where you can be hurt. And you finally kind of give in to someone, but again, it's just laying it all out there. Like look, I'm not in any position to love you, and I'm letting you know this. So let's just see it how it is. Just this is how it is. When someone keeps hitting me up but I don't wanna see them. I'm actually not one to ghost people, or anything like that. I think it's so mean. But I don't think I would also, really ever put myself in a situation where I don't wanna see that person.

I mean, the lyrics kinda say it. It's like, I think it's more of the idea of not wanting to admit it. That you actually do kind of like this person and that you do keep going back to them. I'm also a little naive in that. It's like, all right, this is how it is? But also like, no, I kinda do like you. I think it is pretty hard to admit. Especially if you've been hurt before. You know, it's always a scary situation, but it's also, you're doing yourself a disservice by just thinking of everyone else as someone who's gonna hurt you. So yeah, it's scary but also exciting part about love. I have actually been ghosted (laughs) by someone I liked. And it's not a good feeling.

So I don't think I would ever do it to someone. It's just as simple as, hey look, it's not working out. I'm not in the right place or whatever. It hurts a lot less. ♪ You called it being damaged ♪ ♪ I call it complicated ♪ ♪ Is it wrong to only ♪ ♪ Love you when you're naked ♪ You call it being damaged. I call it complicated. Is it wrong to only love you when you're naked? Again, you know, it's stemming from a place of being hurt. So, you know, there's more to it. There's method behind the madness. And it's just complicated. It's not that I'm actually so damaged to the point beyond return where I can't love, or I'm just this cold person.

I'm at a point in my life where I just need to take control of the situation and not really hurt myself again. So, we're just gonna have some fun with it. (laughing) I do believe in right person, wrong time. Wrong person, right time. Wait (laughs). They're so confusing. I do though, timing is everything. And you could potentially meet someone who's perfect for you, it's just you both are not at a right point in your life to give each other what you need or be the person that you can be, or the best potential person for that person. I do think that it takes the right person to get rid of your emotional baggage.

'Cause I feel like, once you meet someone who has simply just gives you everything that, I guess you were lacking or looking for, and not necessarily in a selfish way, but just, there are people that you can meet and you're just like, wow, you're so nice, why are you so nice? And you almost feel like you don't deserve it. You're not deserving of that type of love. But then you're just like, no wait, this is actually how it's supposed to be. And you can kinda just feel yourself become like, a sigh of relief, just ahh. You feel like yourself again 'cause you're like, wow, like, okay, I could get used to this. I think as humans we definitely make things a lot more complicated than they are.

And I think that's the masochist in all of us. I think people do like pain. I think they like putting themselves into sticky situations. But yeah, I feel like if people were a lot more blunt and just put their feelings all out there, even if it could potentially hurt you, things would be a lot simpler. ♪ Don't be stupid in love ♪ ♪ You know I ain't the one but I wish I was ♪ (upbeat music) Don't be stupid in love. You know I ain't the one but I wish I was. I wish I could be at that point in my life where I can be that perfect girl for you, but I'm just not. I have a lot of growing to do. And I know that you are so deserving of the perfect girl but that's just not who I am right now.

I do believe in love at first sight. (laughs) I do. Yeah, there's some people that you just meet and you're just so smitten and you just feel like you know them. I don't know, maybe that's just the romantic in me. I do believe in soulmates but I don't think they necessary come in the form of a lover. It could be your best friend, a cousin, a sister. There are some people that just really just honestly get you, and I think that you can have more than one soulmate in your lifetime.

♪ I don't need you but ♪ ♪ I don't want nobody else ♪ ♪ Nobody else ♪ ♪ I don't need you but ♪ ♪ I can't be all by myself ♪ ♪ All by myself ♪ (upbeat music) I don't need you but I don't want nobody else, nobody else, nobody. (laughs) I don't need you but I can't be all by myself. And I think it's again, just that when in a breakup where it's like you kind of need someone. And that's kind of the way that you're helping yourself get over it. And you don't need anyone at the same time. It's a very complicated situation. It's like, I don't need you but also, I'm not seeing anyone else, (laughs) and I only want you, but we're not in a relationship. Let's just make it clear.

It's a very weird gray area. (laughs) But I feel like everyone can kind of relate to a certain extent. I think I like to surround myself with people over being by myself. I always just love having my family around, my sisters, my best friend. But I do need my alone time, I really do. There's nothing like it. ♪ You're in way over your head ♪ ♪ But I know that you're good for it ♪ ♪ But only when I want it ♪ (upbeat music) You're in way over your head, but I know that you're good for it, but only when I want it. And again, that's kind of taking back the power, being in control of the situation but you know that this person will probably eventually be the person for you.

They're probably really good for you but you're just not in that place where you can just love them. Oh, I do get overwhelmed easily, yeah. I do get way in over my head. (laughs) I think I know I'm way in over my head when I immediately call my mom (laughs). She's my therapist. When things get rough, that's my go to. My go to gal. But that's also a for sure sign that okay, Cierra, you can't handle this on your own, you need some help. So yeah, a call for my mom. I think breakups are the most relatable universal topic that you can write about. And I got the opportunity to work with these amazing producers Happy and Jazz, The Aristocrats, on a lot of the songs on my upcoming LP.

This song was just, I was so drawn to it because it was relatable. I felt that I could relate to it at that point of my life as well. But I think that it's also something that is hard to admit, 'cause it sound like it comes from a selfish place, but I feel like sometimes you do kind of need that in the process of mourning a breakup or moving on. And you know, it can tend to hurt other people, but as long as you know, you understand that and you're both on the same page, I think it could work out. No strings attached. (laughs) If I could collaborate with any artist, I think I would wanna do Bad Bunny. I love me some Bad Bunny.

I mean, I'm Mexican and Columbian so I would love that Latin flare. Becky G could be also really really amazing 'cause I love the girl power. But yeah, I would want some Latin swag. (laughs) If I could DM anybody in Instagram and they would respond, it would most likely be Zendaya and I would ask her to be my best friend. (laughs) We already are in my head. Ooh, some songs I have on repeat. I've been listening to the new Tame Impala album. Since it's been out, Billie Eilish. It just doesn't get old. That's really been on my heavy rotation lately.
