Nick Jonas was honoured for his work raising awareness of diabetes at a glitzy gala in Los Angeles on Thursday (17Nov11).

The singer, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 13, was presented with the Disability Rights in Entertainment, Arts + Media (DREAM) Award at the Disability Rights Legal Center's annual Franklin D. Roosevelt dinner.

Jonas picked up the honour in recognition of his efforts to increase government funding for health-related research.

He later took to his Twitter.com page to share the news with fans, writing, "So honored to receive the DREAM award from the DRLC tonight for my work in raising awareness for diabetes. Truly blessed."
