Lorde leads Australia's APRA Awards
New Zealand pop star Lorde was among the big winners at Australia's top songwriting awards ceremony on Monday night (23Jun14).
The singer and her co-writer Joel Little were honoured with the Outstanding International Achievement Award during the ceremony in Brisbane, Australia.
Lorde was unable to attend the event in person, but accepted the
trophy in a video message, saying, "Sorry I couldn't be there but
Joel is much funnier and more charismatic than I am... This is an
incredibly big deal to me to be honoured by this community whose
opinions are really valued."
Other big winners included Australian singer Vance Joy, who landed
the Song of the Year award for his popular track Riptide, while Sia
Furler was named Songwriter of the Year for the second consecutive
year.
Furler also accepted the prize via video message, but let a man in
a blonde wig take her place in the clip.
Gotye won Most Performed Australian Work Overseas for his huge
international hit Somebody That I Used To Know, and Birds of Tokyo
were lauded with two prizes for their track Lanterns.
Robin Thicke's collaboration with Pharrell Williams, Blurred Lines,
was named International Work Of Year.
